Dj is a 24-year old Cal student majoring in Nutritional Science. To him interning at ABC7 means fulfilling a childhood dream; an opportunity to debunk or reinforce what he thought news broadcasting and media production was about.
“The SAGE Scholars Program,” Dj states, “has given me critical professional skills that have led me to intern at ABC7.” In fact, Dj courageously and respectfully asked Cheryl Jennings for her business card during a SAGE Scholars’ visit at the ABC7 studios in San Francisco.
“I am truly honored and appreciative to Cheryl Jennings, Mimi Kwan, and Laura Kutch for offering me this amazing opportunity that would not have happened if the SAGE Scholars Program did not open the doors at ABC-7,” Dj declares.
“My interview and resume skills have increased tremendously due to the SAGE Professional Development course,”’ Dj asserts; “Now I can present my resume virtually to any prospective internship and/or summer program.”
Interning at ABC7 also gives Dj the opportunity to serve as his younger sister’s role model. He often tells her ‘‘if your application is like your ability, then I have no doubt of your success.” He then illustrates this by giving her an example of his own initiatives in his academics and internship.
“My internship is going into its third month, and constantly new layers of news broadcasting are revealed,” Dj tells me. Dj articulates that for a long time he struggled to discover some aspect of school in which he could see himself thriving. Now he has found that in writing and mathematics. We know that such academic passion will make him a fantastic future news anchor.
“ ‘Reporting live from San Francisco, I am Djajiijo Bola’, my words bounce off my bathroom mirror as a child; words I reminisce to myself now that I am interning at ABC7 KGO-TV/DT in San Francisco.” —Djajiijo Bola, Dj
