Informational Interviewing
Informational interviewing is a research tool—a way to gather first-hand, “real life” information about a type of job, occupation, career field, or industry. Informational interviewing can be used as a supplement to the Career Counseling Library’s published and electronic resources, which include career books and files, computerized career information systems and Career Exploration Links on the Web.
Projecting Credibility and Confidence
This is a handout Cara Hale Alter of Speechskills provided to the attendees of a SAGE workshop held in Spring 2010. In it, she has outlined the basics of effective communication—tips that can be applied anywhere from a speech to a personal conversation. To project credibility and confidence is to demonstrate authenticity and poise.
All About Philanthropy in Less Than Four Minutes
A charity leader in Seattle has assembled a short video laying out the impact of the nonprofit world, a film that he believes can help other nonprofit executives spread the word about philanthropy’s economic value. The three-minute, 40-second video, “Know Your Sector,” has been posted on YouTube. Among the nuggets of information it contains: the fact that about one in 10 American workers is a nonprofit employee (compared with the one in 57 workers who waits tables). — Heather Joslyn of The Chronicle of Philanthropy
Personal Finance
This two-page sheet is a handout SAGE provided to attendees during its Personal Financial Management workshop in Fall 2009. It contains a budgeting template that you can use to outline your current financial shape. Please refer to the list of resources for tools and information on how to better your financial shape.

Connecting in the Community
The Bay Area is home to numerous professional societies and host a variety of networking events. These provide great opportunities for SAGE Scholars to connect with the broader community. One of our Scholars compiled a list of local professional societies.
